Validation

In several different controlled experiments, CogniFit has demonstrated that cognitive skills can be improved with regular training.

An initial field experiment using part of the MindFit and DriveFit modules was conducted in August 2002.  75 elderly people (Mean age = 68, range 56 - 86) trained 4 times a week for one month.

Below is a sample of the group's improvements:

  • 16% decrease in simple reaction time
  • 9.4% decrease in choice reaction time
  • 11.5% improvement in correct time estimation
  • 30.6% improvement in visual short term memory

Findings from both studies suggest that cognitive abilities such as reaction time, short-term memory, attention, width of visual field etc. are inversely affected by age.

More important, however, is that our findings also suggest that computerized cognitive training among older people enhances cognitive skills such as short-term memory, focusing of attention, reaction time, decision time, visual scanning, visual perception, etc.

DriveFit Assessment as Accident Predictor

In a study conducted at a leading Canadian driving school, using the DriveFit software,  assessment data of 168 driving instructors was gathered. In addition, information was provided regarding the instructor's involvement in car accidents.

The DriveFit software was shown to be an accurate tool to predict involvement in car accidents. Based upon the data gathered, the following statistics were derived:

Out of 29 instructors who were involved in car accidents, the DriveFit assessment classified 26 correctly - 89.7% accuracy.

Out of 139 instructors not involved in car accidents, the DriveFit assessment classified 122 correctly - 87.8% accuracy.

Had the instructors been selected on the basis of DriveFit assessment, all but 3 accidents could have been prevented.

MindFit Training Improves Cognitive Skills

119 MindFit users finished training and sent two evaluations to the CogniFit database. The results comparing the evaluation before training with the one following training indicate a highly systematic improvement in most cognitive skills.

For each of the cognitive abilities trained, the results were all statisically significant at least at the .05 level.

CogniFit has several validation studies in progress. For more information regarding the validations of our programs, please contact:  sales@cognifit.com
